چکیده

Anaerobic vibrios are among the more difficult microorganisms to isolate among the oral commensal flora. They comprise a heterogeneous group of motile, nonsporulating, gram-negative, strictly anaerobic rods. A tentative classification based largely on the studies of Macdonald (1953) separates these bacteria into four species, only one of which is considered as properly belonging in the genus Vibrio (Rosebury and Sonnenwirth, 1958). The poor growth of these bacteria on the surface of semisolid media, despite their abundance in the inocula, is generally considered to result from exacting requirements with respect to carbon dioxide tension, anaerobiosis, and complex nutritional factors. In the course of other work with oral bacteria, it was observed that anaerobic vibrios grew luxuriantly in trypticase soy broth and that this medium could be used for their isolation.

Isolation and screening of antibacterial and enzyme producing marine actinobacteria to approach probiotics against some pathogenic vibrios in shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei

The application of new probiotics is a good strategy in the biological control of infectious diseases in aquaculture. Approximately 100 marine actinobacteria isolates were obtained from 10 sediment samples of shrimp farms. Heat treatment of sediment samples resulted in a selective reduction of the non actinobacterial heterotrophic microflora. Starch nitrate agar medium exhibited more efficacy t...

Simple and convenient method for culturing anaerobic bacteria.

A simple and convenient method for culturing anaerobic bacteria is described. Cultures can be grown in commercially available flasks normally used for preparation of sterile external solutions. A special disposable rubber flask closure maintains anaerobic conditions in the flask after autoclaving. Growth of a variety of anaerobic oral bacteria was comparable to that obtained after anaerobic inc...

Rapid method of determining cholera vibrio biotype.

The characteristic motility of cholera vibrios, as viewed through a dark-field microscope, and the adhesiveness of chicken cell-positive vibrios provide a means for rapidly identifying and biotyping cholera vibrios. Dilute suspensions of vibrios, such as one might find in a fresh rectal swab specimen from a cholera patient, when mixed with a 0.25% suspension of chicken erythrocytes in saline, c...

An efficient and simple CTAB based method for total genomic DNA isolation from low amounts of aquatic plants leaves with a high level of secondary metabolites

An efficient DNA isolation protocol specifically modified to get pure quality DNA required for molecular studieshas been reported in this paper. Some aquatic plants (Potamogeton spp., Ceratophyllum demersum and Myriophyllum spicatum) were used for the study. The protocol developed will be useful in getting high and pure DNA. Instead of using the available DNA extraction kits, this protocol can ...
